NICK'S BACKGROUND IN AI & DIGITAL STRATEGY
Driven by a passion for technology and its power to uplift people, Nick’s mission is to guide organizations through complex digital transformation. By putting human experience at the heart of the process, he ensures that businesses and institutions not only upgrade their systems but deeply value their people and culture.
Nick believes the most powerful technology is often the most invisible—the kind that doesn't just calculate, but helps us connect, understand, and tell better stories. With over two decades of hands-on, practical experience spanning global corporate giants and national heritage institutions, he has built a career as an industry outsider who prioritizes real-world impact over traditional academic theory. His core philosophy? A successful digital transformation strategy is 10% about the software and 90% about the people using it.
Nick spent his early career in the commercial world working for major brands including Sun Microsystems and Google. Recognizing the potential to apply this commercial rigor to purpose-driven organizations, he transitioned into a decade of transformative leadership in the non-profit sector, driving change at The Brain Tumour Charity, Guide Dogs, and the EY Foundation.
Most recently, Nick served as the Director of Digital Engagement and Transformation at the Imperial War Museums (IWM) until December 2025. In this role, he spearheaded a mission to democratize history, proving that century-old institutions can lead the world in technological innovation.
Nick’s tenure at IWM was defined by groundbreaking AI transformation, working alongside Google Cloud and Capgemini. Through targeted AI strategy, Nick led the initiative to utilize Generative AI—specifically Large Language Models (LLMs) and neural networks—to unlock the museum's vast, siloed archives.
By automating the transcription and translation of over 20,000 hours of oral history, his team condensed decades of manual labor into mere weeks. This work not only preserved first-hand accounts of conflict but made them accessible to a global audience for the first time, earning features in The Times, BBC News, and BBC Tech Now. Under his leadership, the museum's digital footprint expanded explosively: website visitors grew from 6 million to over 20 million annually, and YouTube views skyrocketed from 200,000 to over 315 million.
Through his dedicated AI consultancy, Nick is a fierce advocate for "culture-first" transformation. He argues that buying the right technology is the easy part; building a team with the psychological safety to experiment with it is the true challenge.
Nick regularly runs AI workshops and AI leadership workshops designed to cultivate "growth mindsets" within teams. He helps boards and executives demystify emerging technologies, encouraging rapid experimentation and de-stigmatizing failure as a necessary step toward innovation. This leadership style has earned high industry recognition: his team at IWM was awarded "The Best Place to Work in Digital" at the 2024 Digital Technology Leaders Awards, and Nick was named in the Computing IT Leaders 100.
As a keynote speaker, Nick regularly addresses the intersection of Artificial Intelligence, ethics, and cultural heritage at events for Microsoft, TEDx, and leading digital summits. Bringing the sharp timing and engaging energy of a former professional stand-up comedian to the stage, he translates complex technical concepts into compelling, accessible narratives.
Whether advising on robust AI policy, demystifying Web3 and blockchain, or authoring thought leadership on harnessing AI to democratize the past, Nick helps boards and trustees understand how these powerful tools can serve their ultimate mission, rather than just their bottom line.
